Research Scientist

In the role of Research Scientist, the successful candidate will be responsible for provision of scientific and technical input into R&D projects, contributing to the development of leading-edge products, planning creative improvements to existing render and coating products and identifying new innovations, which will have a major impact on margin and revenue.

This role will work as part of the R&D team and report to the R&D Manager while collaborating closely with Business Development and Commercial Departments on customer technical support, product enhancement and new product development.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to ideation, collaborating with academic organisations, innovative suppliers and market research organisations.
  • Responsible for planning and implementation of ‘Pure Research’ projects, investigating new innovations through desk-based and lab-based research in line with the company strategic goals and objectives by working with the Business Development function.
  • Collaboration with the R&D manager, taking responsibility for the planning, scheduling and implementation of specific new product developments, product improvement and optimisation projects.
  • Assist Business Development with the introduction of specific new products to market by controlling the scale up process from lab scale, through pilot scale to full scale production. Involvement in site trials, assessing customer feedback and liaising with other departments to ensure all relevant technical information is in place.
  • Maintain accurate records, including reports and be able to present these as required
  • Assist in the day-to-day running of the R&D laboratory including: preparation of product technical and safety data sheets and other H&S requirements; technical support for sales function; re-formulation of existing products; control of manufacturing formula production database and provision of production support.
  • Provision of technical support, advice and training to the internal and external customer, including customer training, technical data sheets, application methods, brochures, packaging, CPDs and Technical Data Base.
  • Assist in the obtaining and maintaining of product and system approvals and certification processes, including Kitemarking and other approvals.

Contribution to the company’s Intellectual Property portfolio and embedding of new capabilities into company systems, adhering to the Company’s confidentiality rules and procedures at all times.

Undertake any other duties considered to be within the competence of a Research Scientist.

  • Represent the company at conferences, trade shows and other events.

Undertake Continuing Professional Development.

  • Research experience gained within a manufacturing background

  • Experience of research project implementation, management and delivery.
  • Experience of scaling up of laboratory research to production and providing technical support
  • Experience within a construction materials testing environment
  • Awareness of the strategic goals and objectives of a commercial and research department
