Kilwaughter Receive Top 'Green' Accolade

24 November 2011

Kilwaughter Chemical Co Ltd has received a top ‘green’ accolade from Business in the Community’s ARENA Network by achieving Quintile One status at this year’s 13th Northern Ireland Environmental Benchmarking Survey Results Launch. The survey is N. Irelands leading environmental benchmarking exercise, where over 250 organisations take part province wide.

We have also achieved top place in the Mining and Quarrying sector for the second year running placing us ahead of some of the biggest players in the marketplace. BITC made some significant changes to ensure all companies participating continually push the boundaries of environmental leadership.

Environmental considerations are an integral part of business practice at Kilwaughter and in order to achieve Quintile 1 status and remain top place in N.I’s Mining and quarrying sector, a number of improvements were made to our environmental approach throughout 2011, such as working with NIEA on River Flow Monitoring and ongoing work with Queens University to improve energy efficiency.

As Peter Dixon ARENA’s network Chair stated

“N.I’s businesses have a pivotal role to play and will be at the heart of the shift to a sustainable society.  I am therefore happy to report that despite the 2011 Environmental Benchmarking Survey being the most challenging ever, the results show that businesses continue to be at the forefront in demonstrating best practice in the area.
