Our Role in the Community

Inherent in our approach to business is the belief that the community in which we operate should benefit from our presence.  It is part of a continuing commitment to ensure we have a positive impact in our local community.

Broadly, playing our part as a responsible corporate company is achieved through three main areas of activity - Sponsorships and Corporate Donations, Education within the Community and various Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

Sponsorships & Corporate Donations
Kilwaughter makes significant corporate donations to numerous charities and community groups each year.

Education Within the Community
Kilwaughter is committed to enhancing the educational experience of young people through Business in the Community initiatives such as 'Time to Read'.  We support exchange placements, work experience, facility tours and open days. We also invest in the education of our own employees, through the provision of an Education Assistance Programme.

Corporate and Social Responsibility Initiatives
At Kilwaughter, we believe in the power of collaboration, so many of our CSR activities are achieved through partnerships.  We have developed several initiatives in partnership with public-private organisations to help others develop the skills needed to succeed.  Some of our employees serve on local committees, including voluntary and charitable endeavors.  We are committed to trying to improve the social, educational and cultural needs of the communities in which we operate.

St John Ambulance
St John Ambulance provides a charitable first aid service to local communities. Kilwaughter has worked closely with the Larne Division of the St John Ambulance for many years offering support and sponsorship.

Northern Ireland Hospice
The Northern Ireland Hospice cares for adults, children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses. Kilwaughter have developed a close relationship with the Hospice and have sponsored the Hospice Walk for many years.

Acceptable Enterprises (Larne) Ltd
Kilwaughter work closely with Acceptable Enterprises (Larne) Ltd who are Northern Irelands first Social Firm offering:
- Support to disadvantaged people to access a wide range of inclusive, community-based, educational, vocational and social opportunities.
- Provide disadvantaged people with the support to access further education, training and employment opportunities.
- Enable disadvantaged people to enhance their lifestyle and to operate more effectively in education, work and in the community.

Kilwaughter Village Hall
Kilwaughter Village Hall is a fundamental part of the local community, used regularly for a range of activities and is designed to benefit the community as a whole. Over the years the external appearance of the building has been negatively altered due to surface dirt and algae.
To demonstrate our commitment to our local community we undertook the external cleaning of the hall (supplying all materials and labour) and will now maintain the surrounding garden areas on an on-going basis.

Millbrook Community Centre
Millbrook Community Centre was created to promote the development of vibrant, safe and healthy communities across the borough. Kilwaughter has worked closely with this project and provided financial support which has helped see through the completion of the community centre.
